Violent Crime is Up – Democrats Call for Gun Control
Analysis:
Oakland, California, celebrated July 4th with “12 hours of non-stop chaos”. In San Francisco, Target and Walgreens are shuttering stores due to a rash of burglaries in broad daylight. Across the U.S. shootings killed 180 over Independence Day Weekend.
Never one to let a crisis go to waste, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took the opportunity to declare a “Disaster Emergency” on gun violence. Lest we forget that New York City shifted $1 billion from the police budget in response to Democrats' 2020 de-fund the police campaign.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown recently tweeted that, “So far this year, at least 33 #ChicagoPolice officers have been shot at or shot protecting Chicago.”!
Conclusion:
Rather than address the impact their de-fund the police campaign had on morale and policing in America, Democrats are pushing for stricter gun control laws in response to a record number of homicides in 2020 and a growing crime wave across the U.S. in 2021. Chicago, Oakland, San Francisco, and New York City are not bastions of liberal gun policies. Yet these are the cities where rampant violence is spiraling out of control.
