The Constitutional Conservative: Trump at CPAC

Does Trump Still Lead the Republican Party?

Trump's approval rating in the CPAC straw poll was 97%, with 87% saying they strongly approve of Trump's job as president.

Analysis:

CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, concluded Sunday afternoon with former President Trump’s closing speech. CPAC has long been a mainstay stop for conservatives seeking to become the Republican Party’s nominee for president. This tradition goes back to Ronald Reagan’s campaign in 1980. Among the 1,000+ conservative leaders from around the nation who participated in both the CPAC straw-poll and the conference itself, Trump is the hands-down winner. 68% of people at CPAC in the straw poll said that Trump should run for president again. Trump got 55% of the vote in the poll in which he was included, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a distant second place at 21%. No other potential candidate made it into the double-digits.

Conclusion:

Trump has a significant majority of the conservatives at CPAC eager for him to run for president, again, and he has the majority of their votes, at least today, should he run again. CPAC does not, of course, represent the entire nation, but it has long been a predictable measure of strength among conservatives nationally. With Trump so outpacing the rest of the field, we should expect his national support to far exceed any other likely candidate.
