The Constitutional Conservative: Taliban Rejoice as Biden Announces Withdrawal
"We have won the War and America has lost…and we are fully prepared for jihad” said a leading Taliban militant in control of one area of Afghanistan.
Analysis:
Twenty years after the attacks on 9/11, the Taliban believes they won a war with America. They may be right. President Biden announced that the last of our services men will depart Afghanistan on or before 9/11/21.
After having lost thousands of American service members, with tens of thousands wounded, President Biden is leaving in such a way as to have the Taliban believe they fought a war with America and won. Maybe that is the truth. I hope not, regardless of whether the Taliban believe they are victorious, they will likely be emboldened, not deterred, to strike America again.
Conclusion:
Thousands of Americans gave their lives or their health to counter-strike after the 9/11 attacks on our civilians. Yet, now, the U.S. is retreating while the Taliban claims victory. If our operational goal for Afghanistan was to defeat the Taliban or instill enough fear to prevent future terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens, one wonders if we succeeded.
